I'm very excited to be back at Ross Middle School for the school year 2016-2017. This is my 9th year with EPISD and I'm excited to say this is my 3rd year at Ross Middle School. This year I will be teaching STEM for grades 6th, 7th, and 8th as well as 8th grade Science.
A Little About Me:
I eat, breathe, and live Science. It was a favorite subject as I went through my years in middle school and high school. My parents were major influences!!! My dad always talks about space, stars and animals. My mom always enjoys taking my siblings and I on camping trips, she was the cook!!! My enthusiasm shows up easily in my classes and I tend to try my best to stay in the field of teaching Science. I am married with 4 children. This year I will have one child in preschool, elementary school, middle school, and high school. I know the importance of communication and how our lives can get hectic. If anything ever arises and work can't get turned in just send me a quick note, text me, or leave me a message at school. As a parent, I enjoy planning trips that involve Science. For instance, while hiking in Ruidoso, NM, I was taking pictures of lichens hanging on trees which is a pioneer species of a plant t that requires very little nutrients to survive. Science is my life!!! I owe it to my parents who always show me that science is out of the classroom too. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child's education. I look forward to partnering up with you as a Science Educator.
STEM is an exciting elective class that incorporates Science, Math, Engineering, and Technology. It is a hands-on, minds-on activity filled class. We will focus on science concepts and use math, engineering, and technology to build projects throughout the year. All projects are built in class and no homework is assigned for this class. I will supply all the materials for the projects except for three things : an empty 2 liter bottle, 1 empty water bottle, and decorative duct tape. These items can be brought in anytime before the due date.
8th grade Science will be an exciting class filled with lab investigations, hands-on, minds-on activities. This class will have homework to prepare for the concepts that will be taught throughout the year. It will be important for your child to complete all homework assignments so they can apply prior knowledge in class. It is important for your child to attend tutoring if they cannot grasp a concept. Early intervention is the best intervention. I will be available all week after school. I expect all my students to be actively engaged, 100% participation. I include technology in all my classes so their cell phones are welcome in class. I do however advice them not to text, Instagram, Snap chat,or Facebook their friends while in my class so they don't interrupt other classes. We all know how tempting it is to read a text when we get the notification. Please remind your child to not misuse their phones in my class as their privilege will be taken away. If you have an important message to send to your child please have them notify me so they can have an opportunity to contact you if need be.
This is going to be an exciting, fun year!!!! Ross Rebels Rock!!!!
